Alejandro Arteaga is a biologist and wildlife photographer from Venezuela. He is based in Ecuador and is the scientific director of Tropical Herping, an institution he co-founded in 2009 to preserve tropical reptiles and amphibians through tourism, photography, education and research. He obtained his biology degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, and now works as an associate researcher at Universidad San Francisco de Quito. Alejandro is author of The Amphibians and Reptiles of Mindo and 11 scientific articles. He has described 12 new species to science and his photographic work has been featured in National Geographic, Anima Mundi, and the Discovery Channel. In 2015, he was awarded in the Big Picture Natural World Photography competition.
